The English Education program at ×îÉ«µ¼º½ State leads to 6-12 teacher certification in the teaching field of English Language Arts in Georgia. Candidates complete the equivalent of a major in English and a second major in pedagogical studies with an emphasis on teaching English Language Arts. The program draws from the National Council of Teachers of English positions and guidelines and builds on the GA Professional Teaching Standards.
The English Education program prepares teachers who have a broad, rich knowledge of the discipline of English, including all English language literature and media and a broad understanding of speaking, listening, reading, writing, and viewing that invites multiliteracies. Furthermore, teacher candidates enact a critical and creative inquiry stance leading to a culturally relevant and theoretically informed pedagogy for English Language Arts, honoring varied and individual experiences, backgrounds, and perspectives.
This program is fully accredited and approved by Georgia’s Professional Standards Commission for teacher certification.
