                            Program of StudyINED 7775 Nature of Autism: Theory & Educational Practices (Summer. 3 credit hours) This course is designed to familiarize the learner with an overview of characteristics,
                           etiology, empirical based treatments, and prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
                           Additionally, this course aims to inform participants with the knowledge and skill
                           to effectively facilitate a learning environment in which individuals with ASD are
                           successful. Effective teaching strategies, classroom organization, and collaborating
                           with professionals and families will be introduced, evaluated, and discussed.
 
 INED 7776 Assessment & Diagnosis of Individuals with Autism (field component) (Fall. 3 credit hours)
 This course is designed to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills necessary
                           to analyze the process of assessing and diagnosing individuals with autism. Participants
                           will be introduced to strategies and skills that are needed for conducting on going
                           classroom based-assessments. By the end of the course participates will be able to
                           interpret assessment data and translate it into meaningful educational interventions
                           and progress monitoring. This course contains a field component.
 
 INED 7720 Positive Behavior Intervention Strategies (field component) (Spring. 3 credit hours)
 This course focuses on developing skills in implementing proactive strategies for positive behavior and academic supports. Basic application of culturally responsive school-wide positive behavior support strategies, individualized behavioral supports, and positive classroom support strategies are emphasized. Candidates will apply research-based principles and strategies through an application project while working in the field with a student with challenging behaviors.
 
                            Need more InformationThe purpose of the Autism Spectrum Disorders Endorsement is to prepare teachers to
                           meet the needs of students with autism. According to the National Center for Disease
                           Control (2013) an average of 1 in 68 children has an autism spectrum disorder, a number
                           that has increased tremendously in the last decade. This fully online certificate is specifically designed to meet the ever-increasing
                           need for specialized preparation to meet the needs of students on the autism spectrum.
                           This stand-alone certificate does not lead to certification; however, candidates who
                           complete the certificate program may transfer up to 9 credit hours as part of the
                           electives for the M.Ed. in Special Education. |
