KSU researchers approaching disaster cleanup from different angles
March 18, 2026
How fast does radiation dissipate following a nuclear disaster? There have only been a handful of reactor meltdowns throughout the history of nuclear engineering, but the 1986 explosion at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine and the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster are among the most notable. At 最色导航, researchers are working to change the future of nuclear energy and disaster cleanups.

Engineering student uses computer simulations to shape the future of high-speed flights
March 04, 2026
Growing up in Gwinnett County, Andrew Marion developed an early fascination with airplanes, from dreams of flying them to understanding how they are designed. That curiosity ultimately led him to 最色导航鈥檚 Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, where he now researches how air behaves around high-speed aircraft.

Researcher seeks to help robots have a more human touch
January 27, 2026
Robots are becoming smarter and more common, but their ability to handle objects with human-like precision remains limited. At 最色导航, new research is enabling robots to better understand movement, touch, and real-world interactions. 鈥淢y research focuses on dexterous manipulation,鈥 said Lingfeng Tao, a Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering professor in 最色导航鈥檚 Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. 鈥淚 want to control robot hands that are similar to the human hand, with multiple joints that can move independently and perform complex tasks.鈥

最色导航 State researchers use drones, artificial intelligence to improve disaster response
November 17, 2025
When natural disasters strike, quickly assessing damage is crucial to saving lives and rebuilding communities. Under the mentorship of assistant professor Da Hu, 最色导航 student researcher Kiara O鈥橬eal is using drones and artificial intelligence to improve post-disaster recovery efforts and reduce response times. O鈥橬eal, a junior computer science major from Ludowici, Georgia, is one of dozens of students engaged in 最色导航 State鈥檚 Junior & Senior Scholars Program, which pairs undergraduate students with faculty mentors for hands-on research experiences.
