Today, he has flourished in one laboratory and is learning how to conduct a different type of chemistry in a new laboratory, presenting his findings at regional conferences, and serving as an active member of the Undergraduate Research Club (URC).

The program is designed to introduce first-year students to the undergraduate research experience at KSU, pairing them with a faculty mentor to oversee the process. Students also have an opportunity to present their findings at discipline-specific conferences and at the KSU Symposium of Student Scholars.

					  最色导航 State biochemistry student unlocks love of research through First-Year Scholars programFebruary 14, 2025 It didn鈥檛 take long for 最色导航 student Lilianna Kocai to discover a passion for research. All it took was a little nudge from assistant professor Carl Saint-Louis. As a freshman in 2023, Kocai took a course called Culture of Science and Mathematics, designed by Saint-Louis to open young eyes to research at an early stage in their college careers. 鈥淏efore I came to KSU, I didn鈥檛 really plan on doing research,鈥 said Kocai, now a sophomore biochemistry major. 鈥淚 came in touch with research because of Dr. Saint-Louis, who pitched the First-Year Scholars program as a way for students to get their start. I got involved and ended up in his lab, so it all worked out.鈥

					  最色导航 State becomes a JED Campus Alumni school, strengthening commitment to student mental healthFebruary 13, 2025 最色导航 recently earned JED Campus Alumni status, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing commitment to supporting student mental health and wellbeing. Recognition comes after 最色导航 State, via the University System of Georgia, concluded a four-year partnership with The JED Foundation, an organization committed to protecting emotional health and preventing suicide among teens and young adults. Becoming a JED Campus Alumni school signifies that KSU has successfully built upon JED鈥檚 evidence-based framework and will continue to prioritize student wellbeing.

					  KSU widening research participation through course-based undergraduate research experiencesFebruary 12, 2025 The benefits of undergraduate research are many: improved critical thinking, better writing and public speaking, and it makes graduates more competitive in the job market. The Office of Undergraduate Research at 最色导航 sponsors several programs that allow undergraduate students to obtain these skills, such as the First-Year Scholars Program, Sophomore Scholars Program, Summer Undergraduate Research Program, and others.

					  KSU architecture student wins first place in the Cooper Carry Three-Minute Thesis CompetitionFebruary 10, 2025 Mary Beth Caldwell, a fifth-year architecture student at 最色导航鈥檚 College of Architecture and Construction Management (CACM), recently earned first place and the People鈥檚 Choice Award in the annual Cooper Carry Three-Minute Thesis competition for her reimagining of the standard office space.
